Boy, 4, drowns in neighbor's pool in Armstrong County

A 4-year-old boy who wandered away from his family drowned in a neighbor's swimming pool in Armstrong County, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office said Sunday.

Colby Nickel was flown to Children's Hospital in Lawrenceville where doctors pronounced him dead. The incident occurred shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday in Washington Township, about 10 miles north of Kittanning.

According to state police, the boy walked over to a neighbor's property about 100 feet away and climbed over a locked gate that blocked access to the deck of an above-ground pool. When his family found him, he was motionless in the pool, police said. They began CPR and called 911.

It is unclear how long the child was in the pool before he was found.
