Ford City man killed in collision

KITTANNING TWP. — A Ford City man died in a two-vehicle crash that shut down a major highway for more than six hours.

Terry R. McClafferty, of Cherry Run Road, Ford City, died of blunt force trauma to the abdomen and thorax when he was involved in a head-on collision on Route 422, near Cornish Road, at 1:36 a.m. Sunday, according to Brian Myers, Armstrong County's deputy coroner.

The autopsy took place on Sunday.

McClafferty was traveling west on Route 422 in his 2006 Dodge pickup when he was hit head on by a 1999 Ford F150 pickup, driven by Jonathon Brandon Miller, 23, who may be charged with driving under the influence, pending lab results, according to Trooper Stephen Rowe of the Pennsylvania State Police's Kittanning barracks.

Myers said McClafferty was traveling westbound on Route 422 when Miller's vehicle allegedly crossed the double-yellow lines, causing the collision.

Miller's condition was not available.

Kittanning Township, Rayburn, Manor, Elderton fire departments and Kittanning Hose Company 6 ambulance responded to the scene, according to an Armstrong County 911 news release.

Route 422 was closed after the accident, reopening at approximately 8:30 a.m.

Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home, 200 S. McKean St., Kittanning, is handling funeral arrangements.
