Plumcreek fire victim identified

A Plumcreek man died early Wednesday when he re-entered his burning home to try to save his dogs.

Armstrong County Deputy Coroner Brian K. Myers identified the man as Terry L. Verner, 43, of 342 Village Road.

The fire was reported about 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Verner and a cousin who was staying at the mobile home escaped the burning structure, Myers said. Verner, however, heard his dog yelping from inside the trailer and when back inside to try to rescue it.

Verner's body was found just inside the front door, Myers said. He died of smoke inhalation. Myers ruled the death accidental.

A state police fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire, but officials said it does not appear suspicious.
