Cranberry woman found dead in car that went over embankment

Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, 8:45 a.m.

A Cranberry woman was found dead in the wreckage of her car off Route 19 in Jackson Tuesday, township police said.

Sharon Petrich, 66, likely went off the road several hours before the car was spotted around 7:55 a.m. by a passing motorist, police Chief Terry Seilhamer said.

The car, traveling north on Route 19 by the Interstate 79 entrance ramp, went through a guardrail and about 350 feet down an embankment through heavy undergrowth, Seilhamer said.

Police aren't sure whether Petrich suffered a medical episode that caused the crash, Seilhamer said. The Butler County Coroner's Office was expected to conduct an autopsy Tuesday afternoon.
