Man sentenced for child porn possession

A Smithfield man was sentenced on Friday to serve 12 months on house arrest as a part of a plea bargain in a child pornography case.

Judge John F. Wagner Jr. ordered Robert James Pierce Jr., 23, of 10 Church St., to serve three months of that house arrest on electronic monitoring.

Pierce pleaded guilty in July to a charge of child pornography when state police executing a search warrant on a laptop owned by Pierce turned up more than 65 images of child pornography and 20 videos.

The images were discovered by investigators conducting online searches for people using the Internet to share child pornography.
