Pageant to benefit Connellsville Community Center

A “Connellsville Christmas Pageant” will be held in the Edwin S. Porter Theatre at the Connellsville Community Center on Fairview Avenue, beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22.
“The idea for the pageant was first brought to my attention in late September,” said Lori Kosisko, office manager at the community center and co-director of the event. “Shelly Smith and her daughter Anastasia came up with the idea for the pageant because Anastasia wanted to help raise money for our community center.”
Kosisko said Anastasia told her mother that she wanted everyone to be able to be in a pageant without traveling far away and spending a lot of money.
“Anastasia wants everyone to have to chance to feel like a prince or princess. Anastasia is involved in pageants and currently holds the title of Ambassador Queen for Pure American Pageants and Pennsylvania's 2012 Miniature Miss Beauty for Cinderella Pageant,” Kosisko said.
There are 46 contestants registered — four boys and 42 girls and women, ranging in age from 4 months to 42 years. They will be judged in two categories: “Beauty Wear,” which would be a nice Christmas or formal dress, and “Outfit of Choice,” which would be a fun outfit with a Christmas theme where anything goes.
There will be six judges with backgrounds in pageants, modeling, fashion and performing arts. The judges will be looking for overall confidence; eye contact; facial beauty; poise; personality; contestant's outfit and if flattering and right fit; hairstyle and if it compliments face and outfit; and if contestant is well groomed and having fun.
“Although we do not have a talent category this year, we definitely plan on adding talent next year,” Kosisko said. “This is an ‘all natural' pageant.”
Sashes for the contestants are green satin with candy cane stripes and silver trim.
There will be a King, Queen, Princess and runners-up for each age division. Awards will be given for “Best Smile,” “Prettiest Hair” and “Prettiest Eyes.”
People attending the pageant will be able to vote for their favorite contestant in the “People's Choice Award.” There will be two “Director's Choice Awards.”
“Our Facebook page, Connellsville Christmas Pageant, has pictures of the crowns to be awarded and ‘Photogenic' is being voted on there by judges from Pure American Pageants,” event co-director Shelley Smith said. “They do not know any of the kids in the pageant.”
The “Photogenic” winner will be announced Saturday and be crowned and receive a 2-foot-high trophy at the Dec. 22 pageant.
“The company that we ordered the beautiful crowns from is donating two large crowns to be awarded to two, high-point winners,” Smith added.
Refreshments will be sold, including pizza, hot dogs, popcorn, chips, water, soda and coffee.
Vendors are being accepted until Saturday. Signed to participate are Avon, Silpada, Pampered Chef, Initials Ink, Avery Grace, Cookie Lee, Tupperware, West Side Jewelry, Dancer's Corner and It Works.
Admission to the pageant is $2 per person.
“We want to thank the city for their support. All proceeds will benefit the Connellsville Community Center. If you are interested in being a vendor, please contact me at the Community Center at 724-626-0300. Registration is closed for the pageant,” Kosisko said.
