Attempted child abduction probed in Uniontown

Tuesday, July 23, 2013, 12:01 a.m.

Police in Fayette County are investigating a report of an attempted child abduction.

A 7-year-old girl told police she saw the driver of a white four-door truck open his door and pick up a 2-year-old girl on Boyle Street in Uniontown at 2:22 p.m. Friday, according to a police report. The man let the girl go when she screamed, according to the report, but said he would “come back for you.”

The children's mothers told police they were inside a house on East Wine Street when they heard the toddler scream. They said they went outside and saw the vehicle travel down Race Street. The vehicle then drove by a second time in the alley between Race Street and Phillippi Avenue, according to a police report.

The 7-year-old girl told police two white men were in the truck. Police patrolled the area and asked other departments to watch for it, but no one located the vehicle, according to a report.

Jason Cox, police chief, said an investigation is ongoing.
