'American Coyotes' Series

Traveling by Jeep, boat and foot, Tribune-Review investigative reporter Carl Prine and photojournalist Justin Merriman covered nearly 2,000 miles over two months along the border with Mexico to report on coyotes — the human traffickers who bring illegal immigrants into the United States. Most are Americans working for money and/or drugs. This series reports how their operations have a major impact on life for residents and the environment along the border — and beyond.

A Ligonier man was killed Tuesday in a head-on collision along Route 30 in Quemahoning Township, Somerset County.

State police said a Dodge Durango driven by Steven R. Sherback, 37, was traveling west on Route 30 when the vehicle skidded and crossed into oncoming traffic, striking an eastbound Ford F-250 driven by Robert H. Blough, 51, of Stoystown.

The accident occurred near the Route 219 interchange.

Sherback was pronounced dead at the scene by the Somerset County coroner. Blough was transported to Conemaugh Hospital. Police did not know the severity of his injuries.
