'American Coyotes' Series

Traveling by Jeep, boat and foot, Tribune-Review investigative reporter Carl Prine and photojournalist Justin Merriman covered nearly 2,000 miles over two months along the border with Mexico to report on coyotes — the human traffickers who bring illegal immigrants into the United States. Most are Americans working for money and/or drugs. This series reports how their operations have a major impact on life for residents and the environment along the border — and beyond.

An Ohio man died in a single-vehicle crash in Washington County early Friday morning.

Scott David Schuetz, 29, of Martins Ferry drove out of the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 in North Franklin Township at about 1:30 a.m., said Coroner Timothy Warco.

Schuetz's Honda SUV crossed the median embankment and landed in the westbound lanes, ejecting Schuetz from the vehicle.

He was pronounced dead of blunt force trauma at about 2:45 a.m., Warco said.

Authorities are investigating the crash.
