'American Coyotes' Series

Traveling by Jeep, boat and foot, Tribune-Review investigative reporter Carl Prine and photojournalist Justin Merriman covered nearly 2,000 miles over two months along the border with Mexico to report on coyotes — the human traffickers who bring illegal immigrants into the United States. Most are Americans working for money and/or drugs. This series reports how their operations have a major impact on life for residents and the environment along the border — and beyond.

A Burgettstown man was killed overnight when a motorcycle struck a tree in Washington County.

Patrick A. Fages, 48, veered off Eldersville Road near Karch Road at about 10:40 p.m. Sunday, according to a release from Coroner Tim Warco.

Fages crossed the center line and struck a tree, and ended up in the road. A witness said a white SUV then struck Fages and fled, Warco said.

Fages was pronounced dead at 12:20 a.m. Monday of blunt force trauma, Warco said.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating.
