2 slapped with charges in Greensburg home invasion

Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, 12:01 a.m.

Two men were arraigned on Thursday on charges that they forced their way into a Greensburg apartment last week, then took the occupant to two bank machines to withdraw cash.

James C. Miller, 45, of 2329 Green Hills Lane, Hempfield, and Michael Anthony Huff Jr., 25, of 121 S. Second St., Jeannette, are charged with burglary, robbery, theft, criminal mischief and conspiracy.

Each was jailed in lieu of posting $35,000 bond set by Greensburg District Judge James Albert.

Two others — Dottie L. Ressler, 21, of 449 College Ave., Greensburg, and Esther Pollard, 31, of 11461 Route 993, North Huntingdon — were arraigned on two conspiracy counts related to the home invasion.

Miller kicked in the front door of the West Second Street apartment while Huff broke through a rear door around 1 a.m. on Feb. 1, police said.

The suspects told the male resident they wanted the money he owed them, Patrolman Reginald Harbarger wrote in an affidavit.

Miller and Huff forced the resident into a white Cadillac sedan and had him withdraw a total $800 from bank machines at the PNC Bank branch on South Main Street and the Sunoco convenience store on West Pittsburgh Street, police said.

Miller and Huff took the resident back to his apartment and told him not to contact police or “they would be back for him,” according to a police affidavit.

Ressler and Pollard accompanied the male suspects to the apartment and threw knives into a kitchen wall as they waited for Miller and Huff to return, two other people in the apartment told police.

Westmoreland County Sheriff Department deputies took the four into custody without incident about 8 a.m. after receiving a tip they were in Pollard's Larimer residence, Sheriff Jon Held said.

Ressler and Pollard were jailed in lieu of posting $25,000 bond.

The four suspects are scheduled for preliminary hearings on Thursday.
