Courtney M. Reed Latrobe Courtney M. (Howard) Reed, 45, of Latrobe, passed peacefully Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at her residence after a courageous battle against cancer. She was born July 10, 1967, of Latrobe, a daughter of Esther (Ross) Howard Pevarnik and the late Joseph Frank Howard. Courtney was a member of St. Vincent Basilica and was a first grade catechist for their Catholic Faith Formation classes. She graduated from Greater Latrobe Senior High School. Courtney attended Penn State University and earned a bachelor's degree in sports medicine. She earned her master's degree in physical therapy from Hahnemann University in Philadelphia. She was employed by King's Physical Therapy in Connellsville. Courtney was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Frank Howard, in 1977; her maternal grandparents, Herman and Sophie Ross; and her paternal grandfather, Donald Howard. Courtney is survived by her six children, Jacob, Rachel, Joseph, Robert "Boose," Samuel and Rebecca; her mother and stepfather, Esther Howard Pevarnik and James L. Pevarnik, of Latrobe; one brother, Joseph B. Howard and his wife, Elizabeth, of Lexington, N.C.; one sister, Amanda M. Coup and her husband, Kenneth, of Gibsonia; her paternal grandmother, Martha Howard, of Johnstown; two stepbrothers, David Pevarnik and his wife, Connie, of Latrobe, and James Pevarnik and his wife, Bobbi Jo, of Latrobe; and she is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Courtney is also survived by the father of her children, Robert Reed; and his parents, Richard and Marie Reed, of North Carolina. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday at the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Vincent Basilica. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Interment will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery.
