Economic deja vu

In the midst of a hotly contested election, no one has mentioned that we're also in the midst of “stagflation.” It would be good to recall the difficult economic times of the late 1970s, with new car prices about to double (“sticker shock”) and gasoline prices skyrocketing. A high unemployment rate also persists.

That was the economic mess the Republicans inherited after the 1980 presidential election. To paraphrase the lyrics to the “All in the Family” theme song: “Mister, we could use a man like Ronald Reagan again”!
