So often in elections, we citizens resign ourselves to voting for the “lesser of two evils.” But in the case of state Rep. Eli Evankovich, the citizens of New Kensington, Arnold, Lower Burrell and surrounding communities have the choice of voting for the good.

Mr. Evankovich is a constant presence in our community. Specifically, in the case of education, politicians love to say how they are “for the children.” But seldom do we see someone who actually is there for those children.

I have seen Evankovich at our schools reading Dr. Seuss stories to students. He stops by to watch Little League games.

Last spring, my wife asked his office for suggestions on state agencies that might make a presentation for Earth Day at Stewart Elementary. Evankovich went out of his way and contacted the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. The result was the state secretary of Agriculture, George Greig, coming to Stewart to lead the presentation. What a positive civics experience for those kids.

My family will be proud to cast our votes for Eli on Nov. 6 and urge everyone else in our community to do the same.
