Connellsville's comeback: Some promising signs

Things are happening in Connellsville.

Construction has started on the Connellsville Canteen Coffee Shop and Harry Clark's Indian Creek Valley Railroad Display, projects that are aimed to preserve important elements of the city's history.

And soon, right down the road from the railroad display/canteen, a furniture and household items store could be opening in the former G.C. Murphy building on West Crawford Avenue.

Movement is happening in downtown Connellsville. Revitalization could be on the horizon.

Why? Because of people who are willing to take a chance and who believe in the city.

We believe the railroad display/canteen will draw not only local people but also tourists. The proposed furniture/household items business will also attract city visitors.

But local support is important. That means making our community accessible. Cleaning it up. Making visitors feel welcome.

Downtown Connellsville has suggested that city council adopt a storefront window improvement program for the city's vacant properties to spruce up the area and make the city more appealing. This is just another step in our community's revitalization efforts, and we hope our city council will work with the volunteer members of the Downtown Connellsville in its efforts.

Working together — that's how Connellsville will embark on a new future.
