Quotables: Remembering Officer Shaw
New Kensington police Officer Brian Shaw was fondly remembered this week by more than 150 people at a vigil service for him in the parking lot of City Reach Church. Mr. Shaw, 25, was fatally shot Nov. 17 after a traffic stop. Attendees who didn't know him personally nevertheless spoke highly of his commitment to their community. And just as Mayor Tom Guzzo pointed out, what's important now in remembrance of Shaw is to honor the work of his fellow officers and first responders.
“People here know how to come together. Even after this terrible tragedy, they still work together to move forward. It's been incredible to see.”

“We just had to do something to show the police department, his family and the community that we support them. We really wanted to get together and make sure this was an event for everyone.”
One of the co-organizers of the vigil
“The community has once again really come through. We've seen the best of our community at our worst time.”
