'American Coyotes' Series

Traveling by Jeep, boat and foot, Tribune-Review investigative reporter Carl Prine and photojournalist Justin Merriman covered nearly 2,000 miles over two months along the border with Mexico to report on coyotes — the human traffickers who bring illegal immigrants into the United States. Most are Americans working for money and/or drugs. This series reports how their operations have a major impact on life for residents and the environment along the border — and beyond.

Letter to the Editor
Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, 9:00 p.m.

According to some VND letter writers, people are living on mountains of trash and eating tree bark. President Obama is the new Hitler. Or is he the new Stalin? Democrats are destroying our country and trying to enslave us.

Sounds like some of them need to spend less time at the country club with their 1-percent buddies and see the real world. Not helping the poor and enriching themselves is not the real world.

And everything is the fault of liberals/progressives. Your letter writers need a less myopic view of the world we all inhabit. Compromise and working together is what makes our country great and the envy of the rest of the world. Building walls and making fun of the less fortunate is not the American way.

On behalf of the great unwashed 47 percent that your letter writers don't care about, I say treat all people with dignity whether you agree with them or not.

God bless your writers, God bless America and God bless our president today, after Nov. 6 and forever.
