U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., consented to a radio interview recently, ostensibly to make the case for keeping the 911th Airlift Wing in operation. However, when repeatedly pressed to say how much the base costs the taxpayers, he was unable to come up with any dollar figure whatsoever.

He of all people should be able to obtain this information. No matter which side of the issue one is on, this indicates a certain laziness or disinterest on the senator's part. Rather than do the necessary research, he apparently just wants to get on the popular side of a local issue.

The people of Pennsylvania, particularly those affected should the base close, deserve a little more work from our junior U.S. senator. He could at least put in enough effort to know what he is talking about.
