‘Ringer' washer?

Regarding the article “Christmas times 100” (Dec. 25) about centenarians' memories of Christmas: It was unintentionally amusing.

One person interviewed talked of a “ringer” washing machine. Did it go “ding-a-ling?” I suppose your reporter and copy editors are too young to know what a “wringer” washer is.
