I applaud Shannon Britton for her letter “Gays' Right to Marry” (Jan. 15).

The Bible is not a weapon; it is the story of God's relationship with his people and how we are to relate to each other in God. All lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people are created by God. If we had any choice in our sexual orientation, I doubt that any of us would choose one that would cause us to be hated, reviled and possibly killed.

Instead of people spending all of their time and resources opposing gay marriage and gay families, how about using that energy to reduce the divorce rate and adopt all of those children suffering in foster care? After all, those kids are the product of heterosexual relationships.
