How striking the contrast was between the columns “Night of nonsense” by George F. Will and “Skin in the game” by Joseph Sabino Mistick (both Feb. 17 and TribLIVE.com). I refer to the manner in which they analyzed the State of the Union address, not their political viewpoints.

Mr. Will adroitly pointed out the absurdity of the pomp and circumstance. Mr. Mistick, however, reveled in it, taking to task those who “refused to clap” on cue. Will also addressed the substance of the speech. Mistick failed to do so at all and never even mentioned what Sen. Marco Rubio said in the Republican response, taking delight instead in his “dive.” Mistick falls far short of the very high standard set by Will.
