No transit merger

Re. the proposal by Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald to merge transit agencies in Southwestern Pennsylvania (story, “Transit merger idea spreads,” Feb. 24): I couldn't be more opposed. I've seen Port Authority service cuts that are disgraceful and, on top of that, fares go up.

If this new agency comes to be, Port Authority gets involved with Westmoreland County. Westmoreland Transit is doing a great job and I fail to see how this new agency will serve us better.

I wish Mr. Fitzgerald would focus on his own county's problems.

So right Mr Poe, I am old enough to remember when parts of Allegheny County had transit service. [West Deer,Fawn, Frazer, Richland ect} Then came the consolidating of al private companies giving us the god service. Result, no service and higher taxes and larger debt.
