Half-day kindergarten inadequate
I can't believe the New Kensington-Arnold School Board's decision to cut kindergarten children to 2.5 hours of education and thinking that will properly prepare them for first grade.
I attended the board meeting and argued my points of view, stating that now is the time for early intervention.
I stressed how disheartening it is for our children to be among neighborhood children who attended a private school or a peer from a different district who received much more education than we are providing.
I spoke about my community-based petition and how I attained signatures — and positive feedback from preschoolers' parents and local citizens.
I also started a Facebook page that had more than 100 supporters in one week.
And I let them know that if this decision sticks, I will pay for private education to ensure that my children get the proper and much-needed challenge.
I also have a problem with how quickly this decision was made and how little it was publicly discussed. I did not know it was up for discussion until I read in the newspaper that the decision had been made.
