Letter to the Editor
Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, 8:55 p.m.

To Andrew Gerenyi, writer of the letter “Abolish the 2nd”: The Second Amendment is not obsolete. It is as relevant as ever.

The Second Amendment protects Americans from the tyranny of our own government. Armed people are free people.

Look at history; unarmed resistance to tyranny is futile. There have been millions of unarmed German, Soviet and Chinese citizens who were silenced forever by oppressive governments. The Second Amendment protects our rights to be a free people.

Andrew, you wrote: “This will be unpopular with Trib readership, but I believe the Second Amendment is obsolete and should be abolished.” Your ideas on the Second Amendment should be unpopular with all freedom-loving Americans!
