Letter to the Editor
Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, 9:00 p.m.

I tip my hat to Troy Polamalu for his efforts in raising awareness for the plight of military veterans by donating locks of his hair for the VFW's “Mane Event.”

I am unabashedly a faithful fan of Troy's, using “43” in my email address and proudly wearing my No. 43 game shirt.

Here in California, which I now call home, heroes abound, but none is as popular as Polamalu. The Union-Tribune of San Diego offered a small clip of Troy's haircut, as did Fox News.

His challenge to teammates and fans has spurred me to also join his efforts by getting my own “ceremonial haircut.”
