Re. the letter “Re-elect O-Brien” (Oct. 8) from Schuylkill County Clerk of Courts Stephen Lukach Jr.: With all due respect, Mr. Lukach needs to get his facts correct.

On March 27, 2012, the VND story “County agency to extend service” quoted Ms. O'Brien as stating she had no plans to extend business hours in the Westmoreland County prothonotary's office.

The truth is, only after Republicans Mike Powers and Carl Stepanovich campaigned for prothonotary on offering credit card payments for court fees and extended office hours did O'Brien act. Did O'Brien initiate these changes solely to save her job?

I'm voting for Mike Powers because he's an honest, hardworking young man who has proven to be a true leader in the county in his work for candidates.

I worked with Mike when he was executive director of the Westmoreland County Republican Committee and when he worked for the Tom Smith campaign for U.S. Senate. Mike knows how to roll up his sleeves and work hard for the taxpayers. He's not going to accept a pension.

Is on-the-job training bad, as Lukach said? Memo to Lukach: I've learned more from real-world, on-the-job experience than I ever did in graduate school.
