With all the hardships that people face around the world, I find it hard to believe that the best way to spend $50 billion was to hold a series of extreme sports in Sochi.

Indeed, the Olympics not only fail to bring people from around the world together in any meaningful way, they actually prove how indifferent we can be to one another.
