Washington & Jefferson College senior running back Tim McNerney, 21, a Knoch graduate who was murdered Oct. 4, was honored posthumously Monday as a unanimous selection to the All-Presidents' Athletic Conference first team.
McNerney rushed for 461 yards and four touchdowns on 89 carries in four games before his death, which is under investigation.
In his college career, McNerney accumulated 2,336 rushing yards and 30 touchdowns.
After W&J upset previously undefeated Waynesburg, 31-14, on Saturday, the Presidents dedicated their 23rd PAC title to McNerney and his family. The Presidents (8-2, 7-1) and Waynesburg (9-1, 7-1) finished as conference co-champions.
W&J earned an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III playoffs and will visit Johns Hopkins (9-1) at noon Saturday for a first-round game.
Cornell freshman guard Nolan Cressler (Plum) earned the Ivy League's Rookie of the Week award after coming off the bench and scoring a game-high 20 points — a school record for a freshman debut — in a 63-55 nonconference win over Western Michigan on Saturday.
Indiana (Pa.) redshirt freshman running back Montay Green (Fox Chapel) rushed for 89 yards on 13 carries, as the Crimson Hawks (10-1) captured their first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference title since 1987 by routing Shippensburg, 41-10, in Division II action Saturday.
Gannon junior goalkeeper Jason Barbarino (Plum), who has an 1.24 goals-against average and .816 save percentage, was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference's first team goalkeeper. Barbarino made 11 saves Sunday as the Golden Knights (13-5) notched their first NCAA Division II playoff win since 1993 by beating Davis & Elkins, 2-1.
La Roche sophomore forward Bryan Weimerskirch (Springdale) scored a team-leading 12 goals, added four assists and was named to the All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference first team for the Division III Redhawks (9-10).
