College football notebook: Pitt, Penn State get an 'A' from BCA for coaching search
TribLIVE Sports Videos
Pitt and Penn State were among 21 Division I schools awarded grades of “A” from the Black Coaches and Administrators for their head football coaching searches in 2011-12.
A total of 39 schools were graded after hiring new coaches in the offseason. Pitt hired Paul Chryst and Penn State hired Bill O'Brien. The report card released Thursday is not based on how many minority coaches were hired.
Rather, schools are evaluated based on criteria pertaining to the hiring process. Historically black colleges are not included in the study.
Executive director Floyd Keith said he was alarmed only six of the schools hired minorities. In 2010-11, 10 of the 28 Division I head coaching jobs were filled by minorities.
