Sophomore guard John Johnson has left the Pitt men's basketball team and will transfer.

Pitt coach Jamie Dixon said he and Johnson talked several times and that he plans to help the Philadelphia native find another school. Minutes may have been hard to come by for Johnson, as this appears to be one of Dixon's deepest teams.

“We've got a lot of good players and a lot of good guards,” Dixon said.

Johnson played in all 39 games last season and started 10. He averaged 2.2 points and 1.6 rebounds while playing 11.7 minutes per game.

Starting guard James Robinson and transfer Trey Zeigler are among the perimeter players who are in their first season at Pitt.

In other news, Dixon said junior forward Aron Nwankwo likely will redshirt.
