The rebuilding of the Pitt offensive line continues with coach Paul Chryst receiving a verbal commitment from offensive lineman Alex Officer of Eastridge (N.Y.).

Officer, 6-foot-4, 300 pounds, is the second-ranked lineman in New York according to Rivals.com and the top guard. He is the fourth lineman in Pitt's Class of 2013, joining Dorian Johnson of Belle Vernon, Carson Baker of Fairborn, Ohio, and Aaron Reese of Chambersburg.

Officer, a three-star prospect, chose Pitt over nine other schools, including Rutgers, Syracuse, Boston College and Purdue.

Eastridge coach Chad Green said Officer, a two-year starter, has many physical attributes that set him apart from other players.

“He has outstanding feet, a great frame and has an aggressive blocking style,” Green said. “He has no problem getting to the second level and blocking the linebackers.”
