Redshirt sophomore center Malcolm Gilbert is leaving the Pitt men's basketball team.

Gilbert has decided to transfer because of family-related reasons, coach Jamie Dixon said.

“Malcolm has asked for his release and has informed me that he wants to play with his brother (Marcus at Fairfield),” Dixon said in a prepared statement. “He's a great kid, hard worker and good player. We thank Malcolm for his contribution to our program over the last year and a half and wish him much success in the future.”

The 6-foot-11, 235-pound Gilbert was redshirting this season. Last year during his freshman season, he saw action in 19 games, averaging 0.8 points and 0.8 rebounds per game.
