• Pitt is no longer undefeated against the top 10 at the Pete. Pitt's 70-61 loss to No. 8 Cincinnati marked the Panthers' first loss to a top-10 opponent at Petersen Events Center since it opened in 2002. Pitt was 12-0 against top-10 teams on its home court. The No. 24 Panthers are now 15-5 in the 20 games in which ranked teams have met at the Pete and 16-7 against top-25 teams at the Pete. Pitt is 174-20 overall in 11 seasons at Petersen Events Center. “Obviously, we're pleased with the victory,” Cincinnati coach Mick Cronin said. “Not many people win here, and I don't think many are going to win here this year.”
• Pitt coach Jamie Dixon was dumbfounded that Pitt lost the battle of the boards. The Panthers were outrebounded by Cincinnati, 37-32, after winning it in the first half. The Panthers held a 21-17 rebounding edge at halftime, but the Bearcats won, 20-11, in the second half. “I don't know how you go up four to down nine in the second half. That's a dramatic change,” Dixon said. “That's a big turnaround in a low possession game. That's a big number.” Freshman center Steven Adams led Pitt with nine rebounds, with eight coming in the first half before he got into second-half foul trouble. Talib Zanna finished with five rebounds, 1.3 below his season average.
• Pitt was 0 for 10 from behind the arc against Cincinnati, marking the first time in more than three years and only the second time in Dixon's tenure that the Panthers failed to convert a 3-pointer. Not since a 74-60 loss to West Virginia in the Big East tournament on March 12, 2009, has Pitt been held without a 3-pointer. The Panthers were 0 for 8 in that game. Lamar Patterson missed five attempts, Tray Woodall three and Duran Johnson and J.J. Moore one each. Cincinnati made 3 of 16 shots from 3-point range.
