Pitt's Graham out for BBVA Compass Bowl
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Pitt senior running back Ray Graham has a hamstring injury and has been declared out of the BBVA Compass Bowl against Ole Miss at Legion Field.
Graham, who recovered from a serious knee injury to rush for 1,042 yards and 11 touchdowns this season, suffered the injury last month during bowl practices in Pittsburgh.
Freshman running back Rushel Shell will make the first start of his career. He was the No. 1 backup to Graham this season, rushing for 562 yards and four touchdowns.
Also out for the bowl game are starting middle linebacker Shane Gordon (neck) and backup tight end Drew Carswell. Senior Joe Trebitz, who started two games during the season and had a game-high 13 tackles against Notre Dame, will replace Gordon. Pitt also will rely heavily on its nickel package, replacing a linebacker with safeties Andrew Taglianetti or Ray Vinopal.

We moderate comments. Our goal is to provide substantive commentary for a general readership. By screening submissions, we provide a space where readers can share intelligent and informed commentary that enhances the quality of our news and information.
