'American Coyotes' Series

Traveling by Jeep, boat and foot, Tribune-Review investigative reporter Carl Prine and photojournalist Justin Merriman covered nearly 2,000 miles over two months along the border with Mexico to report on coyotes — the human traffickers who bring illegal immigrants into the United States. Mikayla Chryst, daughter of Pitt football coach Paul Chryst, signed a letter of intent to play soccer next season at Pitt.

Chryst, a defender, helped lead Edgewood (Wis.) High School to the 2011 state championship.

She and Gateway's Carly Seneca were among 12 seniors who signed with Pitt.
