Pitt notebook: Pitt offensive line coach ends controversy

ACC Videos

• Pitt offensive line coach Jim Hueber was quick to defuse any controversy about his starters. “I haven't moved anybody, really,” he said Wednesday. “I mixed it up a little bit, but I haven't made a move from the first five guys we put out there.” For a brief time, Hueber moved left tackle Adam Bisnowaty to left guard (where sophomore Dorian Johnson usually plays) while inserting redshirt freshman Jaryd-Jones Smith at left tackle. Hueber said the move was made to prepare for a possible emergency. “What we have to do if something would go wrong,” he said. Bisnowaty and Johnson will remain at the positions where they started last week. “There is a dramatic change in Dorian's size (to 310 pounds), which is plenty big enough,” Hueber said. “His awareness is better. I don't know where he goes from here. We have to get him ready to play, and we'll find out.”

• Bisnowaty missed the entire spring with a back ailment, but he has recovered and will keep his job, Hueber said. “Bis is comfortable (at tackle). I hate to take anything away from a guy who truly got injured playing for us. The days of Wally Pipp are over.”

• Senior linebacker Todd Thomas (knee) returned to practice after missing a day and a half. ... Sophomore linebacker Bam Bradley also was back after he was excused to tend to a family matter.

• Redshirt freshman tackle Aaron Reese left drills with an undisclosed injury, sat on a trainer's bench and watched the rest of practice.

• Pitt is developing some depth at tight end among junior J.P. Holtz, sophomores Scott Orndoff and Jaymar Parrish and redshirt freshmen Devon Edwards and Tony Harper. “I like what Scotty can give you,”coach Paul Chryst said. “J.P. has had a really good camp. Jaymar does a lot for us and we keep bringing (Edwards and Harper) along.”
