While watching them play against each other Friday, it was hard not to wonder what it would be like to see Blackhawk's Chandler Kincade throwing passes to Central Valley's Robert Foster.

Now we know what it's like to be a college football coach, especially Pitt's Paul Chryst, who got good news from both prospects this week.

Foster announced on Twitter on Friday that the Panthers are among his final three choices, along with Alabama and Ohio State.

“The reason I decided to do that now is those are three that make me feel comfortable,” said Foster, regarded by scouting services as one of the nation's best wideouts.

Not so publicly, Kincade affirmed that the verbal commitment to Pitt he made to Todd Graham last fall still holds true with Chryst.

“Pitt's been great to me,” said Kincade, whose older brother, Anthony, is a freshman at Pitt. “My focus has been to build a relationship with Coach Chryst and his staff, and vice versa. I consider myself committed. I was committed when he got there. I just needed to see how this season goes and how I fit — and he wants to see how I fit, too.”

Actually, Kincade realizes he appears to be a better fit in Chryst's pro-style offense than he did in Graham's spread scheme.

Foster was impressed with Kincade, not only his scrambling ability but his arm strength.

“Chandler Kincade is one athlete,” Foster said. “I didn't know he could throw a (deep) ball like that. He's blessed with opportunities.”

Whether those opportunities will involve throwing the ball to Foster, the Central Valley star won't say. But knowing that a quarterback of Kincade's caliber — the 6-foot-5, 218-pounder is considered the state's top junior passer — can't hurt the Panthers.

“It's good that Pitt's involved,” Metro Index scouting director Joe Butler said. “That'll help them a lot. With (Chad) Voytik and (Tra'von) Chapman, that gives them three good quarterbacks in a row.”

Butler believes the more WPIAL stars the Panthers land, the better off they'll be.

“They have to get the better guys from here,” Butler said. “You're not going to get them all. You've got to get 50 percent of the blue chippers in this area. There's too much competition to get every one.”

Getting Foster and Kincade should be among Pitt's top priorities, and both provided positive news for the Panthers this week.
