Clairton joined 11 other “home” teams Wednesday, when it had to uproot its WPIAL first-round playoff game because of Hurricane Sandy.

The undefeated Bears moved their game against Frazier (7-2) from the natural grass of Neil C. Brown Stadium to the turf at James Weir Stadium in Belle Vernon for the opening round of the WPIAL Class A playoffs at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

In Class AA, Aliquippa will host Steel Valley at Moon, Burrell will host Mt. Pleasant at Valley, Freeport will host Beaver Falls at Highlands, Jeannette will host South Allegheny at Norwin, and Washington will host Shady Side Academy at Washington & Jefferson College.

In Class A, Clairton will host Frazier at Belle Vernon, Beth-Center will host Union at California, Jefferson-Morgan will host Neshannock at Waynesburg, Monessen will host Apollo-Ridge at Charleroi, Rochester will host Avonworth at Ambridge, Springdale will host Brentwood at Fox Chapel, and Sto-Rox will play Carmichaels at North Hills.

Clairton, which has won a WPIAL-record 18 consecutive games at neutral sites, including the last three PIAA Class A titles, will begin its quest for a record-tying fifth consecutive outright WPIAL championship away from home for the first time in that span.

Clairton has also won its last 16 WPIAL Class A playoff games.

The Bears, the No. 1 seed in the Class A playoffs, have won a nation's best and WPIAL-record 56 consecutive games and are three victories away from tying Central Bucks West (1997-2000) for the state record.
