Mohawk coach Joe Lamenza is ready to see results.

“Last year, we were a young football team; we knew we were going to be building,” he said.

In 2011, Mohawk's lineup was composed mostly of first-year starters, including four sophomores and one freshman.

Lamenza's primary focus was building a foundation — setting good habits and building commitment to the weight room.

“We started to build that family-like atmosphere,” he said.

The Warriors did not win any games, but Lamenza saw progress.

“Every week we got a little bit better,” he said.

Last season, Mohawk allowed 381 points and scored 61, but Lamenza said the exposure helped his team, regardless of the result.

“We're a year older,” he said. “We've got a year of experience under our belt.”

For Mohawk, Lamenza will rely on running backs Thomas Beatty and Austin Main, as well Vince Menichino at quarterback and offensive linemen Bob Rob, all seniors.

“There's no substitute for those experiences,” Lamenza said. “The players know to pick up where we left off and try to get better.”
