New Neshannock coach Fred Mozzocio knows how difficult the Big 7 Conference can be.
He's already looking forward to competing there.
“When you speak of the likes of Rochester, Sto-Rox, those are some of the finest programs in the state,” said Mozzocio, who was hired in January to replace Pat Cuba.
“That's what we're shooting to become, so with that, we relish the opportunity to compete against them.”
Before coming to Neshannock, Mozzocio spent six seasons as an assistant at New Castle, which competes in the difficult Parkway Conference. Mozzocio plans to implement a variation of the spread offense that New Castle runs.
“We will spread the ball around 50-50, run versus pass,” he said.
The Lancers, who finished 5-4 last season and in fifth place in the Big 7, have a host of seniors returning for 2012. Mozzocio credited seniors such as John Conglose, Kienan Owens, Michael Sanflippo, Ryan Tyler and Alex Welker for providing leadership heading into the season.
“They've bought into the mindset that we've tried to establish here, and they've been very supportive and just rallied their teammates around the whole program,” Mozzocio said.
