High school teams across the WPIAL generally rely on seniors for leadership, but Union didn't have a single one last year.
This season is a different story.
A deep senior class — including several three-year starters — will do its best to end the Scotties' eight-season playoff drought in 2012.
“These guys have been around a long time, and they're looking to make amends for some of the things that have happened to them in the past,” Union coach Stacy Robinson said.
The Scotties split their first four games last season before dropping their last five. Robinson said the team let too many games slip away, as Union lost three conference games by five points or fewer.
Robinson said his son, running back Drew Robinson, will be a “central figure” on this year's team, as will fellow seniors John Clark, Wayne Seamans, Austin Smith and Joe Salmen.
“It's their turn to show the other people how to get it done,” Robinson said.
“They're the ones in front of the charge, leading us up that hill. So it's on the seniors' shoulders, and on the rest of (the players) to fill in the gaps.”
