There was one simple reason why Tynen Greer was the right quarterback to lead Montour's last-minute, game-tying drive.

It was his turn.

Part of a three-quarterback rotation, Greer rushed 4 yards for a score with 32 seconds left and then threw an overtime touchdown in Thursday night's 28-27 victory at Central Valley. However, Greer's 10-yard touchdown to Cole Macek wasn't the ending's final dramatic moment.

Central Valley had a chance to win in overtime when star senior Robert Foster forced his way into the end zone with a 2-yard run, his third touchdown of the game. The Warriors chose to try for two, but Foster's weaving run was stopped a yard short.

“That's gutsy but not unexpected,” Montour's Devin Wilson said of the two-point try. “They have one of the best players in the state, so obviously they're going to use him to the best of their ability. They wanted to end the game right there and not let us get another chance.”

Montour stuck diligently to a three-quarterback rotation for the second week, switching each series between senior Ryan Mihelcic, senior Max Rosinsky and Greer, a junior.

With 1:52 left, it was Greer's turn.

“I said, ‘Ty, we've got to go score,' ” Montour coach Lou Cerro said. “It's your turn. Now, let's do it.”

Greer led Montour 68 yards in seven plays, including six passes. The longest was a 25-yarder to Wilson. Facing first-and-goal from the 4, Greer ran for the touchdown, so Cerro stuck with Greer in overtime.

“I was just trying to stay calm,” Greer said. “I walked into the huddle and told them we're going to score.”

The victory earns No. 2-ranked Montour (2-0, 2-0) favorite status in the Parkway Conference and probably Class AAA overall. Central Valley (1-1, 1-1) had been ranked No. 1.

Central Valley scored three times in the third quarter beginning with two short rushing touchdowns by Foster. Both were while running a wildcat offense. The first, a 1-yard run with 5:26 left, tied the score. His second, a 2-yarder with 3:44 left, gave Central Valley a 14-7 lead.

A 61-yard touchdown pass from Nate Climo to Anthony Williams extended that lead to 21-7 with just 34 seconds left in the third.

Two second-half turnovers by Montour, including a third-quarter kickoff that wasn't fielded, almost doomed them.

But the Spartans scored twice in the fourth, beginning with a 1-yard run by Mihelcic. It capped an eight-play, 75-yard drive that included a 58-yard pass from Mihelcic to tight end Lucas Parrish. With 8:34 left, Montour trailed, 21-14.

The came Greer's game-tying touchdown drive with less than 2 minutes to play.

A 39-yard TD pass from Greer to Justin Hill gave Montour a 7-0 lead with 2:10 left in the first quarter. Greer found Hill for his third TD pass in two weeks.

Foster and Wilson continued their own rivalry. Both play receiver and defensive back, so the Division I recruits saw one another often. On Central Valley's second play, Wilson intercepted a pass intended for Foster, stepping around Foster to grab the short pass.

The two battled again with 2:50 left in the second quarter, when they jumped together in the end zone for a pass from Greer. Foster made the interception.
