Immediately after Monessen disposed of Apollo-Ridge, 48-19, in the first round of the WPIAL Class A playoffs and the Greyhounds discovered that their quarterfinal foe would be Neshannock, speculation started the trickle in about a possible site for the game.

At first, it was thought that the game would be played at Moon High School and then Chartiers Valley was mentioned as well.

So, when Monessen coach Andy Pacak found out Monday morning that the game will be played at Chartiers-Houston, he was a little relieved.

“When somebody mentioned Moon, I didn't like hearing that at all,” he said. “We're a 5 seed and (Neshannock) is a 13, so I would think the game would be a little closer to us.

“Chartiers-Houston isn't a bad place for the game. It sure beats traveling one or two hours in a bus.”

Monessen (9-1) and Neshannock (9-1) will meet at 7:30 p.m. Friday with the winner getting the survivor of the Clairton (10-0)-Brentwood (7-3) in the semifinals.

The trip from Monessen to Chartiers-Houston is approximately 30 miles while those coming from Neshannock have a journey of approximately 96 miles.

The last time Monessen played at Chartiers-Houston was in 2007 when the Greyhounds played a non-conference game against the Buccaneers. The Greyhounds survived that contest in overtime, 15-9. Playoff games in the area

Football fans in the area who want to see a playoff game won't have to travel very far Friday night as two local schools picked up playoff games.

Belle Vernon Area's James Weir Stadium will be used for the second consecutive week as a site and once again, top-seeded Clairton will be there for its game against ninth-seed Brentwood in Class A. Clairton rolled over Frazier at BVA last week.

In Class AAA, Elizabeth Forward will host the quarterfinal game between top-seeded Thomas Jefferson (10-0) and eighth-seeded Franklin Regional (8-2).

Both games, as all quarterfinal contests, will kick off at 7:30 p.m. •Monessen ticket sales set

Monessen Athletic Director Gina Naccarato announced advance ticket sales for Friday's game.

Tickets will be sold at Monessen on Wednesday and Thursday. Tickets will be sold at 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the high school office each day. Fans are asked to enter through the main entrance.

In the evening, tickets will be sold from 6-8 in the athletic office near the gym and fans are asked to enter the school through the gymnasium doors.

No student tickets will be sold at the gate.

Naccarato added that the school gets to keep a larger share of the proceeds from tickets sold in advance and urged Monessen fans to buy tickets during the pre-sale.
