Monessen gets 5 on Black Hills Team

Five Monessen players were named to the Black Hills All-Conference Team, which was released recently.

Monessen's selections included quarterback Chavas Rawlins and wide receiver Clintell Gillaspie on offense and defensive lineman R.J. Small, linebacker Justice Rawlins and defensive back Javon Brown on defense. Chavas Rawlins and Small are seniors while the other three are juniors.

Chavas Rawlins, Small and Gillaspie made all-conference a year ago when Monessen played in the Tri-County South Conference.

Monessen finished second in the conference behind four-time defending WPIAL Class A champion Clairton. The Greyhounds, Bears and Brentwood led the 24-player team with five selections each.

Rawlins, a West Virginia University recruit, completed 71 of 165 passes for 1,382 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also rushed for 613 yards and scored 16 touchdowns in a variety of ways.

Gillaspie, who also played running back, led Monessen in rushing with 642 yards on just 89 carries. He caught 24 passes for 571 yards for an average of 23.8 yards per reception. He scored 14 touchdowns.

Clairton's five selections included running back Tyler Boyd, wide receiver Terrish Webb, offensive lineman Devonte Harvey, linebacker Dyran Davenport and defensive back Titus Howard,

Boyd, who has 1,850 yards rushing and scored 32 touchdowns this season, was also named the conference's Offensive Player of the Year.

The Defensive Player of the Year is Chartiers-Houston linebacker Garrett Vulcano.

The Coach of the Year is Clairton's Tom Nola.

Players garnering honorable mention include Monessen's Pete Tarka, Shyheim Windom, Kayne Jackson and Keith Davis and California's Austin Wingo, Austin Hunter, Dimitri Clements, Jason Pilarski and Colt Stewart.
