'American Coyotes' Series

Traveling by Jeep, boat and foot, Tribune-Review investigative reporter Carl Prine and photojournalist Justin Merriman covered nearly 2,000 miles over two months along the border with Mexico to report on coyotes — the human traffickers who bring illegal immigrants into the United States. Most are Americans working for money and/or drugs. This series reports how their operations have a major impact on life for residents and the environment along the border — and beyond.

Kittanning junior football standout Nick Bowers received a scholarship offer from Pitt over the weekend.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound junior said he was shocked by his first offer, but knew of Pitt's interest in him after accepting invitations to both the Miami and Notre Dame games at Heinz Field.

This past season, Bowers was a first-team selection on offense and defense in the Class AA Allegheny Conference. He caught 54 passes for 856 yards and 16 touchdowns for the Wildcats (9-1).
