Clairton’s Boyd to visit Michigan State; may announce college decision Saturday

Pitt remains No. 1 on Clairton wide receiver Tyler Boyd's list of college choices, but he said he plans to visit Michigan State next week.
Boyd, the No. 1 wide receiver in Pennsylvania, said he may announce his decision to a national television audience Saturday at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio.
“Even if I do commit (Saturday), I still am going to take a visit (to Michigan State) in January,” he said Tuesday. “I am ready to make a decision, but then again, I'm not. I'm just getting tired of all the hype.”
Boyd, 6-foot-1, 168 pounds, is ranked eighth nationally by Rivals.com after scoring 117 career touchdowns at Clairton.
He said he hasn't made up his mind, but he might know by Thursday.
Six schools remain in the running for Boyd, including his top three — Pitt, Michigan State and West Virginia — plus Tennessee, Rutgers and Penn State. He said Penn State would be higher on the list if not for its NCAA sanctions and bowl ban.
He said Pitt is “more than likely” No. 1 because of the strong relationship he has built with wide receivers coach Bobby Engram.
“Coach Engram is cool; he's a straight-up guy,” Boyd said. “There is a comfort zone about (Pitt).”
Plus, Clairton teammate Titus Howard has verbally committed to the Panthers, and Pitt has offered a scholarship to wide receiver Terrish Webb.
“They are my brothers,” Boyd said.
