Kentucky's John Calipari had to cancel a scheduled visit with Lincoln Park junior Ryan Skovranko, but the coach promised he'll return.

Skovranko, a 6-foot-7 junior guard/forward, doesn't have a Kentucky scholarship offer, nor was one expected, but a visit from one of the nation's top recruiters certainly should boost Skovranko's status among college coaches.

Calipari, a Moon native, had planned to visit Wednesday but canceled after Kentucky star freshman Nerlens Noel suffered a season-ending knee injury.

“He couldn't make it, but he said he was coming back,” said Lincoln Park's Mike Bariski, who's athletic director and assistant basketball coach at the performing arts charter school in Midland, Beaver County.

Calipari and assistant Orlando Antigua sat courtside at Palumbo Center last March when Lincoln Park won the WPIAL Class A championship over a Cornell team led by Calipari's high school coach, Bill Sacco. They noticed Skovranko, and Antigua watched him again on the AAU circuit.

“Orlando is the one who's seen Ryan a bunch of times,” Bariski said. “He's high on Skovranko and really wants Calipari to come and see him.”

Skovranko has offers from Duquesne and Elon, and Virginia Tech could soon follow. Miami also has shown interest, Bariski said. But having a recruiter of numerous one-and-done McDonald's All-Americans visit the gym would be a highlight, whether it comes with a Kentucky offer or not.

“If he does make an offer, Ryan wouldn't get ‘yes' out of his mouth fast enough,” Bariski said.
