Pine-Richland takes care of Kiski

The Pine-Richland hockey team went back and fourth for two periods with the Kiski Area Cavilers before the flood-gates broke open en route to a 7-4 win.
Kiski took a 1-0 lead before Zach Richey knotted things up. Kiski answered again, but Ethan Pitts knotted the score again off an assist from Ryan Cole and Nick Carnovale.
The Rams took their first lead of the game on Richey's second goal, but Kiski tied the score again before the break.
The Rams opened up the third period by missing on two good scoring chances. But Richey knocked in the hat trick, which led to a pair of goals by Dillon Kessy and one from Mike Carrozzi to put the game away.
“Zach has been dynamite. When we have needed a goal, he gets it,” Pine-Richland coach Mike Bagnato said. “We have been playing four lines, some guys double, but we have been playing 18 guys.”
Bagnato said his players have been doing some really good things early this season. Being able to hang with Kiski long enough to finally pull away showed him that the experience of seasons past has paid off.
“Last year, we would have panicked,” Bagnato said. “This year, we have the experience in those situations.
“The guys are skating hard and I am seeing a lot of effort.”
The effort against Kiski began with Richey.
“It was a lot of great passes right on my stick; I didn't have to work for some of them,” Richey said. “The cycling helped us and I saw some wide-open net.”
Richey added that the forecheck the Rams have been using has shut down some teams and created problems for them getting out of the zone.
“We just work hard,” Richey said.
“There are no superstars here, just a group of bumpers and grinders.”
With another win, the Rams' concentration shifts to improving in the next outing.
“That is want I want to see, us getting a little better each game,” Bagnato said. “We used a new forecheck we learned and I believe we have not played our best hockey yet.”
