Quaker Valley announces Hall of Fame class
The Quaker Valley Sports Hall of Fame last week announced the inductees for the Class of 2017.
The inductees include the conference champion and once-beaten 1967 football team, the school's only WPIAL basketball champion — the 1997 boys basketball team — and three athletes and one contributor — historian John Munizza (1972), football and basketball player Scott Molitor (1997), volleyball player Janette Schneider (2003) and tennis player Annie Houghton (2007), who was the only girl in WPIAL history to win both girls and boys singles titles.
“We are extremely impressed with the outstanding and impressive qualifications of the class of 2017,” athletic director and boys basketball coach Mike Mastroianni said. “They represent different eras, and their credentials are remarkable and unquestioned. Our athletic department and our school district are very fortunate to have had such distinguished contributors.”
The Class of 2017 will be inducted into the Quaker Valley Sports Hall of Fame on Sept. 17 at a brunch and awards ceremony at Sewickley Heights Golf Club.
It will be the featured event of the Quaker Valley Sports Hall of Fame weekend celebration beginning with recognition at the football game Sept. 15.
The Hall of Fame committee is encouraging all former Quaker Valley athletes and supporters to attend the weekend festivities.
The Herald will feature each inductee this summer.
Tickets to attend the Hall of Fame induction banquet will go on sale in early August.
