A-K Valley roundup: Springdale girls rally past East Allegheny
Springdale rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat East Allegheny, 3-2, in a Section 2-AA girls soccer game Wednesday evening.
The Dynamos (7-4, 5-4) snapped a two-game section losing streak. The Wildcats, No. 5 in this week's Tribune-Review rankings, fell to 3-5-1 in section and 6-5-1 overall.
Sydni Henley got Springdale on the board, and Jaden Domaratz tallied the tying and winning goals.
Erica Crail, Miranda Shock and Dominique Knauer provided assists for the Dynamos.
Amani Johnson scored both goals for East Allegheny.
Rylie Patterson made six saves in goal for Springdale to earn the victory.
Fox Chapel 5, Penn Hills 0 — Sarah Sinnott scored twice for Fox Chapel (9-3-1, 7-0) in a Section 3-AAAA win over Penn Hills (3-6, 3-3). Katie Livingston, Lucy Ream and Britta Lagerquist scored one goal each for the Foxes, who moved two games ahead of Plum (5-2) for the section lead with three games remaining.
Freeport 8, Valley 0 — Sidney Shemanski scored five times for Class AA No. 2 Freeport (12-2) in a Section 2 win over Valley (2-9, 0-8). Kaylee Comperatore scored a pair of goals, and Piper Claypool scored once and had three assists. Abby Bastaja and Sarah Lipniskis both had a pair of assists.
Riverview 8, Jeannette 1 — Francesca Lio had a hat trick and three assists to help Riverview (3-9, 3-6) cruise to a Section 1-A victory over Jeannette (1-10, 0-8). Alyssa Cappa had a pair of goals and assists. Eleni Wyrick, Sydney McDonough and Ryle Helsel all scored a goal.
Burrell 4, Highlands 1 — Leesha Wagner scored two goals and added an assist to lead Burrell past Highlands in Section 2-AA play. Danica Johnson also added a goal and assist. Ally Klems recorded 17 saves to earn the win for Burrell (8-3-1, 6-3). JC Bowser scored the only goal for Highlands (1-9-2, 1-5-2).
Kiski Area 8, Latrobe 0 — Sydney Palla recorded a hat trick to help Kiski Area (7-3, 5-2) cruise past Latrobe (1-10, 0-7) in a Section 4-AAAA match. Kaylee Elwood scored two goals and added two assists, and Lexi Moyer, Reagan Frederick and Courtney Moyer scored for the Cavaliers. Kelsey Craig and Cam Morlacci combined for the shutout in goal.
Apollo-Ridge 8, St. Joseph 3 — Emily Bonelli had three goals, and Mayce Anthony scored twice and added three assists to help Apollo-Ridge win its fifth straight game in a Section 1-A victory over St. Joseph (1-9, 1-8). Amanda Eckman, Haley Usko and Adaline Baustert had a goal apiece for the Vikings. Augusta Beaver scored all three of St. Joseph's goals.
Freeport 3, East Allegheny 0 — Tori Radvan had seven kills and six service points as Class AA No. 1 Freeport (12-2, 10-0) swept East Allegheny in a Section 5 win. Isabella Russo had nine kills, eight service points and a pair of blocks for the Yellowjackets. Maddie Clark added nine service points and 12 assists.
